If you've ever prayed, "God, please help me stop…" and then found yourself right back in the same cycle a day or two later, you'll understand why I'm writing this.
Psalm 121 has always been one of my favourite passages in the Bible.
For years, though, I was a living contradiction of the words in it.
No, I'm not saying that God does not help us.
I'm saying that despite reciting that Psalm every day, I just couldn't seem to get the help I needed to stop masturbating and watching porn.
I'm going to tell you the truth.
For 7 years, I was a choir master leading God's people in worship… while secretly trapped in a struggle I couldn't escape.
I prayed. I fasted. I deleted apps.
I installed blockers.
I stayed busy. I avoided being alone.
I made promises to God
And every single time, I ended up right back where I started.
The worst part wasn't the act itself.
The worst part was the double life.
Leading God's people on Sundays while secretly battling something I felt made me unworthy to lead them.
Sometimes, the shame made me feel as though I had disappointed God yet again.
I would beg for His mercy and help.
There was something else I didn't see for a long time.
The shame after falling was not just a consequence — it was part of the fuel.
I would fall → feel dirty and disappointed in myself → tell myself I was a failure → and that heavy feeling would eventually drive me back to the same place for temporary relief.
The shame cycle was feeding the habit I hated.
Once I saw that, I stopped treating every fall as proof that I was hopeless. I started treating it as information. That single shift took a lot of the power out of the cycle.
Still, even after I began to see the shame more clearly, the bigger frustration remained.
It wasn't just the regret of falling.
It was the exhaustion of going in circles — year after year — without real progress.
How much of my life was I going to spend starting over?
What would those 7 years look like if all my efforts had actually moved me forward?
How much closer could I have felt to God if I wasn't constantly carrying the weight of another secret failure?
The truth is, I had tried almost everything people recommend:
Prayer. Fasting. Accountability partners. App blockers. Deleting social media. Staying busy. Making serious promises to God.
Some of those things helped for a season. None of them lasted.
Here's why: almost every method focused on the moment of temptation or the act itself.
Very few of them taught me to look at what was happening in the hours before I opened the browser.
I was fighting the final step of a process I didn't understand. That's why I kept ending up in the same place.
And then, something completely unrelated to porn made me look at the whole struggle differently.
Before I tell you what it was, let me properly introduce myself.
My name is Nonso.
I'm not a pastor, psychologist, therapist, or someone claiming to have magically figured everything out.
I'm simply a fellow believer who spent 7 years inside this struggle—and discovered a different way of understanding it.
I'm Igbo, and where I come from, there's a certain pride that comes with having a son become a Catholic priest.
So when my cousin entered the seminary, it was a big deal in the family.
One Christmas, he came home and we spent some time catching up.
As we talked, somehow the conversation got to the life he was preparing for.
Then he said something that caught my attention.
"Bro, celibacy is not as easy as people think."
We laughed about it at first.
But he explained that celibacy wasn't something they were simply expected to figure out on their own.
There was actual formation and training for it in the seminary.
That stayed with me.
Because I had never really thought about it that way.
I had always looked at celibacy as simply:
Don't have sex.
But if a man was preparing to live that way for the rest of his life, surely there had to be more to it than simply being told to resist temptation.
So later that night, out of curiosity, I started reading about how Catholic priests are actually trained for celibacy.
I clicked through a few things and eventually came across an official Vatican document on the formation of priests for celibacy.
I wasn't looking for anything profound.
I was simply curious about what this "formation" my cousin had mentioned actually involved.
But as I read, something caught my attention.
It wasn't simply about "pray harder" or "just resist temptation."
It talked about things like self-knowledge, understanding your tendencies, examining your motivations, recognizing situations that could put you at risk, and developing the maturity to deal with them.
I stopped reading for a moment.
Because suddenly, I wasn't thinking about my cousin anymore.
I was thinking about myself.
For seven years, I had been fighting porn and masturbation.
And I had never seriously asked:
"Do I actually understand the pattern that leads me there?"
That question sent me down another rabbit hole.
I started looking at my own behaviour differently.
Not just asking:
"Why did I fall again?"
But:
"What happened before I fell?"
Sometimes, I would be stressed.
Sometimes lonely.
Sometimes bored.
Sometimes I had just had a difficult day.
Sometimes I was alone at night with my phone.
Then the thought would come.
And almost immediately, something inside me would say:
"This will make me feel better."
Maybe I didn't say those exact words to myself.
But somewhere inside, I expected porn to give me something.
Relief.
Escape.
Comfort.
Excitement.
A few minutes where I didn't have to think about whatever was bothering me.
And that was the part I had never really understood.
I thought I was simply craving porn.
But when I started looking at the pattern more closely, I realized something:
I wasn't only craving the behaviour.
I was craving what I had learned to believe the behaviour would give me.
For years, my brain had connected certain feelings with porn.
Stress → porn.
Loneliness → porn.
Boredom → porn.
Frustration → porn.
Difficult day → porn.
The more I repeated the pattern, the more natural that connection became.
Eventually, porn started to look like a solution.
But when I really thought about it, it wasn't.
If it solved my stress, why was the stress still there afterwards?
If it solved my loneliness, why did I often feel even more alone afterwards?
If it gave me peace, why did I so often end up feeling guilty and disappointed?
I had confused temporary escape with real relief.
And that was the illusion.
I had spent years believing porn was giving me something I needed.
But it wasn't.
It was something I had learned to run to whenever certain feelings showed up.
And once I started seeing that, I couldn't look at the habit the same way again.
This is not about replacing prayer, fasting, or the power of the Holy Spirit.
I still pray. I still read Scripture. I still depend on God.
What changed is that I stopped fighting blind.
For years I was asking God to take away a behaviour I didn't fully understand. Once I saw the pattern underneath it — the stress, the loneliness, the false promise of relief — I could finally bring the real struggle to God instead of just the symptoms.
Understanding the illusion didn't make me less dependent on God.
It made me more honest with Him.
When the illusion started to break for me (and for the men I've walked with), these were some of the real shifts:
The urge no longer felt like a sudden ambush. I could see it coming hours earlier.
The heavy shame that used to push me back into the cycle began to lose its power.
I stopped making the same desperate promises to God every Monday.
Leading worship (or just living) no longer felt like I was living a double life.
For the married brothers, intimacy with their wives started to feel safer and more present instead of competing with a screen.
This is not overnight perfection.
It is the difference between running in circles and finally moving forward.
Once I experienced that shift myself, I couldn't keep it to myself.
I started sharing what I was learning with other brethren.
I first shared it during our Men's Congress in 2023.
And then something interesting happened.
Men began telling me what they were noticing when they started looking at their own struggles through this lens.
Brother Ezekiel shared this after going through what I taught:
Another brother who had spent years praying, fasting and trying to hold himself accountable shared:
Another brother began noticing the pattern that usually came before his falls:
Another realized that the shame itself had become part of the cycle:
Another brother had tried so many different approaches that he was beginning to believe nothing would work for him:
And this brother had a concern I think many Christian men can relate to:
"Would understanding the psychology of the behaviour somehow mean compromising my faith?"
And finally, this brother described what happened when he stopped simply counting his failures and started paying attention to what happened BEFORE them:
And I realized I couldn't keep having the same conversation over and over again.
That's when my pastor said something that stayed with me.
He told me:
"Nonso, maybe God didn't just set you free for yourself. Maybe He wants to use your story to help other people too. Write it down."
I went home and thought about that for a long time.
Then I opened my laptop. And I started writing.
I took everything I had learned from those seven years.
The questions. The research.
The patterns I had noticed.
The things that finally made sense to me.
And I put them into one simple guide.
Something a Christian could read privately and finally understand what may be happening underneath the struggle.
When I started writing The Porn Illusion™, I didn't want to create another long book filled with complicated words.
I wanted something simple.
Something you could sit down with after work, read quietly, and actually understand.
So I broke everything down into simple steps.
Whether you are single and tired of the secret, or married and tired of the distance it creates with your wife, the core problem is the same: a learned pattern that promises relief and delivers emptiness.
The guide speaks to both.
Inside The Porn Illusion™ you will find:
You don't just read and forget.
You get a framework you can actually use.
And because this is a Christian guide, I also wanted to keep the most important part in view:
Your relationship with God.
This isn't about replacing prayer, Scripture or your faith.
It's about understanding the struggle better while continuing to walk with God through the process.
You may be wondering:
"If this can help another brother or sister, why not just give it away?"
Because helping people and charging for valuable work are not opposites.
I spent months researching, studying, and putting this guide together because I wanted to create something that could support Christians who are already seeking freedom and help them understand the struggle more deeply.
And I want to keep creating resources that help more people.

I need to speak plainly here — not to condemn you, but because I know what this double life costs.
Every time you watch pornography and masturbate, you're not just "making a mistake."
You're:
You can't lead worship on Sunday and masturbate to porn on Monday.
Even the bible says: "No one can serve two masters."
As you already know, the double life of secret pornography and masturbation is destroying you spiritually.
And deep down, you know it.
My fellow brethren, don't let sexual demons keep you bound to porn and masturbation
The Holy Spirit led you here for a reason.
You've been praying for freedom from pornography. You've been asking God to help you stop masturbating.
This is His answer to your porn and masturbation struggle.
Will you receive it?
Or will you let fear, doubt keep you in sexual bondage to pornography and masturbation?

No questions.
No guilt.
No "prove you tried."
You can even keep the materials.
I don't want your money if this doesn't help you see what you've been missing.
PS. I know what it feels like to want freedom and still feel stuck.
I know what it's like to pray about something over and over again.
I know what it's like to promise yourself that this time will be different.
And I know what it's like to wonder if you'll ever finally get past it.
But I also know what it feels like when you finally begin to understand the problem differently.
That's what I want for you.
Not another temporary streak.
Not another promise made in guilt.
But a real understanding of the cycle you've been fighting.
If you're ready to take that step, get your copy of The Porn Illusion™ today.
And take the next step toward the freedom you've been praying for.
No. In fact, we recommend that you don't.
The Porn Illusion™ uses a different approach: understanding comes before quitting.
As you read, you'll learn to see the illusion behind the behaviour and understand why it has held your attention for so long.
Understanding comes first. Freedom follows.
Yes. The Porn Illusion™ was created for Christians who want freedom from porn and masturbation while continuing to grow in their relationship with God.
Faith is an important part of the guide, alongside the psychological understanding behind the habit.
The guide doesn't ask you to stop praying or abandon what you've already been doing.
Instead, it helps you understand why the cycle keeps pulling you back and introduces a different way of looking at the problem.
You don't have to have a perfect track record to start.
Whether you've struggled for months or many years, the guide is designed to help you understand the pattern behind the behaviour and begin approaching it differently.
No.
Your purchase is private, and you don't have to publicly share your struggle. The private Christian community is also designed to allow you to participate anonymously.
You get the complete The Porn Illusion™ eBook, the 60-Second Victory Protocol, the 21-Day Renewal Plan, and lifetime access to the private Christian community.
Everything is delivered digitally after payment.
That's exactly why The Porn Illusion™ takes a different approach.
Instead of giving you another list of things to resist, it helps you understand the illusion and belief behind the behaviour.
The goal is not to make you better at fighting the same battle.
It's to help you understand the battle differently.
Comments from Other Readers
Nonso, I read this last week and decided to get the guide. For the first time, I stopped asking "why did I fall again?" and started asking "what happened BEFORE I fell?" That one shift alone has opened my eyes. I noticed my pattern is always after a stressful day at work. Now I see it coming before it happens. God bless you for this.
I've been in church leadership for 4 years and this is the first resource that doesn't just say "pray more." It actually helps you understand the pattern. I was skeptical about the psychology part but it doesn't replace faith — it strengthens it. The Discord community is quiet but solid too. Worth every naira.
Bro, the shame cycle part hit me hard. I didn't realize that the guilt I felt after each fall was actually pushing me back into the same behaviour. This guide helped me see that. I'm 3 weeks in and while I'm not "perfect," I finally feel like I'm moving forward instead of running in circles. The bonus devotional is fire too.
I almost didn't buy because of the price — thought I could just read free articles online. But those articles never helped me understand MY specific pattern. This did. The way Nonso breaks down how stress and boredom become triggers... nobody else has explained it like this. If you're on the fence, just get it. 30-day guarantee means you have nothing to lose.
Question for anyone who's further along — how long before you started noticing the pattern clearly? I'm on day 5 of journaling what happens before the thoughts come, and I'm already seeing it. Usually it's when I'm alone late at night scrolling. Now I just put the phone in another room before 10pm. Small step but it works.
Nonso, thank you for not making this another "just resist temptation" sermon. As someone who has genuinely loved God through this struggle, I needed to understand WHY my brain kept going back even when my spirit didn't want to. The illusion concept is real. Porn was never the solution — it was just the escape I trained myself to run to. Seeing that changed everything.
Got this for my brother first, then bought one for myself. We both grew up in church, both struggled silently. Being able to talk about it in the Discord group without judgment has been a blessing. The guide is short enough to finish in one sitting but deep enough that I'm re-reading sections. The Dominion Mandate bonus is actually very good — don't skip it.
I was the guy who tried everything — blockers, fasting, accountability partners, deleting social media. None of it lasted because I never understood the root. This guide doesn't promise magic. It promises understanding. And honestly, understanding the pattern has been more powerful than all the blockers combined. Highly recommend.
Just finished reading the guide yesterday. What struck me most was the section on how the relapse starts long before you open your browser. I always thought I failed at the moment of temptation, but I was already on the path hours before. Now I'm learning to interrupt the pattern earlier. Thank you for putting this together, Nonso. God is using your story.
At first I wondered why he was charging for this. But after reading it, I get it. The research, the structure, the community access — this isn't a blog post, it's a proper resource. And the refund policy shows he's serious about helping, not just making money. I've had it for 3 weeks and I'm already seeing progress I never saw in 5 years of trying on my own.
